Enabling Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) function in Windows XP Pro to control PAT

  • To enable Universal Plug and Play to control the device that is using it, here are the steps to enable it in Windows XP

    1) Proceed into My Network Places and view the network connections.
    2)Select the Advanced menu from the top, and go down to Optional Network Components..



    3) Select Networking Services and click on Details.



    4) On this screen select Universal Plug and Play.
    This will enable you to control the device on the Network, that handles Port Address Translation (PAT)



    To Finish the setup, Click OK. This will bring you back to the wizard.
    Select Finish to complete this process.



    My Network Places will now have a Residential Gateway Icon as shown above.
    When you double click on it, it will go into the settings of the UPnP device.
