Readme File for SysKonnect Network Installation Package v4.21 for Windows
XP (x86) for the SysKonnect Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
This file contains
This README file explains how to install the SysKonnect Network
Installation Package on a machine running Windows XP (x86). This package
consists of the Miniport driver (sk98wxp), the Virtual LAN (VLAN)
intermediate driver and the configuration utility SysKonnect Network
Control.
sk98wxp is the NDIS5.1 32-bit Miniport driver for the SysKonnect Gigabit
Ethernet Adapter.
The package supports configuration of VLANs. For further information see
the section on VLANs below. Independent use of the two ports of dual link
adapters is available when the Redundant Link Management Technology
(RLMT) is disabled for any such adapter. Details are described in the
respective section below. The package supports configuration of Link
Aggregation. For further information see the section on LAGG below.
**************************************************************************
NOTE:
The NDIS5.1 Miniport driver can only be used with Windows XP (x86).

To install the SysKonnect Network Installation Package, the following
file(s) are required:
SetupsknetXP.exe SysKonnect Network Installation Package
Installation of the adapter:
Read the installation instructions in the adapter manual carefully.
Follow these instructions to install the adapter in your computer.
Installation of the driver software:
With PCI adapters, due to the plug & play facility of PCI, Windows
is able to find, identify and configure the adapter automatically.
If you install Windows XP (x86) with an already inserted SysKonnect
Gigabit Ethernet Adapter the adapter is installed as "PCI Ethernet
Controller" under "Other Devices". You have to uninstall the driver.
If you install a SysKonnect Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Windows XP (x86)
will ask for a new driver. Cancel the installation process.
1. On the desktop right click on "My computer" and select "Manage".
2. In "Device Manager" find the adapter you wish to update.
3. Right click on the adapter and select "Uninstall".
4. To install the SysKonnect Network Installation Package execute the
setup file SetupsknetXP.exe and follow the instructions.
VLAN support is available after installing or updating the skvlan.sys
driver. Along with the driver itself, the SysKonnect Network Control is
installed automatically. It can be used to add, remove and configure
VLANs.
After installing or updating the driver, start the SysKonnect Network
Control as follows:
1. Click on "Start" - "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on "Network Control".
Use the online help provided by the SysKonnect Network Control for
general information on VLANs and learn how to add, remove and configure
them.
For dual link adapters the sk98wxp driver by default implements
RLMT-functionality, which uses only one "active" port to send and receive
data to and from the network. The other port remains in standby mode
until the network connection on the active port fails. The standby port
then becomes the active port and takes over the traffic.
Independent use of the two ports of dual link adapters is available when
the RLMT-functionality is disabled. RLMT can be disabled with the utility
program SysKonnect Network Control, which will be automatically installed
along with the driver. You can start it as follows:
1. Click on "Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on "SysKonnect Network Control".
3. In the "Adapter" tab, select "RLMT" below the desired dual link adapter
in the tree.
4. Click on "Remove".
5. Click on "OK".
In the system's "Network and Dial-up Connections", there are now two new
network connections that each represent one port of the dual link adapter,
e.g. "Port B of SK-9844 in Slot 3".
You can configure and use the network connections representing the
individual ports as if they were independent network adapters.
LAGG support is available after installing or updating the sklagg.sys
driver. Along with the driver itself, the SysKonnect Network Control is
automatically installed, which can be used to add, remove, and configure
TEAMs.
**************************************************************************
NOTE:
In order to enable LAGG support for dual link adapters, RLMT must be
disabled for such an adapter. See the section about independent use of
dual link ports on how to disable RLMT.
**************************************************************************
After installing or updating the driver, start the SysKonnect Network
Control as follows:
1. Click on "Start" - "Settings" - "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on "SysKonnect Network Control".
Use the online help provided by the SysKonnect Network Control for
general information on TEAMs and learn how to add, remove, and configure
them.
You can modify several options of the sk98wxp driver in order to optimize
the operation of your SysKonnect Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
The driver options/parameters can be set with the SysKonnect Network
Control, which is automatically installed along with the driver, as
follows:
1. Click on "Start" - "Control Panel".
2. Double-click on "Network Control".
3. Select the network adapter or port for which you want to modify an
option/parameter.
The available options/parameters are displayed in the lower half of
the SysKonnect Network Control window.
4. Modify the desired option(s)/parameter(s) according to your needs.
5. Click on "Apply".
Use the online help provided by the SysKonnect Network Control for an
explanation of the available options/parameters and learn how to
configure them.
If you should encounter any problems with your SysKonnect Gigabit
Ethernet Adapter, please re-read the instructions above and the
documentation supplied with the operating system carefully.
Additionally refer to your system event log file (using the Event Viewer)
and check it for entries from sk98wxp.
If your particular problem is not listed or the error persists, please
send your system event log file or at least the event id number and the
logging data (as WORDs) of the entries made by sk98wxp to our technical
support.
For further information please contact SysKonnect support.
